Yangxin Song

Violinist Yangxin Song is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at The Juilliard School, where she studies with Daniel Phillips and Stella Chen. She performs on a 17th-century Andrea Guarneri violin generously loaned from Juilliard’s instrument collection.

A native of Wuhan, China, Song began studying the violin at age three. At age nine, she made her solo debut performing Brahms’s Violin Concerto with the Wuhan Chamber Orchestra. By fourteen, she had performed ten standard concertos and all 24 Paganini Caprices.

Song graduated from Bard College and the Bard Conservatory of Music with double degrees in Violin Performance and Psychology, both on full scholarship. Her principal mentors at Bard included Weigang Li and Honggang Li of the Shanghai Quartet, with additional guidance from Gil Shaham and Melissa Reardon.

As a concertmaster, Song has collaborated with conductors including Tan Dun, Leon Botstein, James Bagwell, and Thomas Wilkins. As a soloist, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, and the Fisher Center, as well as major concert halls throughout China.

Song has received recognition in national and international competitions, including the Dubai Classical Violin International Competition, China Youth Music Competition, Vienna International Chamber Music Competition, and Bard Conservatory Concerto Competition. She was also nominated for the Harvard Musical Association’s Arthur Foote Award in 2022.

A versatile and thoughtful artist, Song combines technical command with lyrical expression, emotional honesty, and a deep interest in the psychological and human dimensions of music.
