Andres Sanchez

At 10 years of age, Andres made his first solo debuts in the Midwest Clinic of Chicago and the Ocean City Pops orchestra. Three years later, he made his Carnegie hall debut as soloist with the ArCoNet chamber orchestra. At age 16, Andres was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music in 2013 where he studied with cellists Peter Wiley and Carter Brey. Andres graduated from the Curtis Institute of Music in 2020 and is continuing his studies at the New England Conservatory under the guidance of Paul Katz. 

Andres has made solo appearances with the Kennet Square Symphony, the Central Jersey Symphony, the Summit Symphony, Pennsylvania Sinfonia, and the Gabrieli Ensemble. As a member of the AYA Trio, he made his Beethoven triple concerto debut with the Waterbury Symphony.
As cellist of the AYA trio, he has performed across the country in esteemed series including Concerts International in Memphis TN, the Schneider Concert series at the Mannes School of Music. The trio recently made its debut in the Brevard Music Center and New York City’s Merkin Concert Hall.

Andres participated in the 2015 Banff Center Master Class Program where he studied with cellist Andres Díaz, Raphael Walfisch, and Denis Brott, and he has also participated in the 2016 Music From Angel Fire Festival where he performed side by side with artists such as Ida Kavafian, Peter Wiley, Steven Tenenbom, and Ani Kavafian. In the summer of 2018, Andres attended the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival where he played with and was coached by the esteemed artists of the Emerson Quartet including Philip Setzer and Paul Watkins. Andres has also participated in the Heifetz institute, where he performed several chamber and solo recital works and took part in several master classes with esteemed faculty such as Colin Carr and Yeesun Kim. In summer of 2022, Andres was accepted as a Ravinia Steans Music Institute fellow where he worked and performed with faculty artist Franz Helmerson and received guidance from cellists Gary Hoffman, Christoph Richter, and Timothy Eddy. Andres was chosen to participate in a masterclass hosted by the New England Conservatory with cellist Steven Isserlis. He returned to Ravinia in 2023 to perform works including Chopin’s cello sonata and Britten’s third string quartet.

Andres has been a participant of several competitions including the Fischoff, M-Prize, Hudson Valley, Greenfield, and the Carlos Prieto International Cello competition. In 2024, he was selected as a semi-finalist for the Sphinx Competition and was awarded honorable mention. Andres will be participating in the 73rd edition of the ARD international competition this September.
