Winner of the 1995 Walter W. Naumburg Chamber Music Award, the New Millennium Ensemble was founded in 1990 and had established itself as one of New York's finest young ensembles.  Laying claim to music from Bach to Boulez and from Ravel to Steve Reich, the group brought energetic eclecticism to audiences throughout the U.S. The ensemble premiered more than 50 new works and earned praise for its brilliant performances and wide-ranging repertoire.

In recognition of its dedication to new music, the ensemble was presented with the 1994 CMA/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming. The group has collaborated with composers at Columbia, Princeton, and Stanford Universities and at the Eastman School of Music in numerous performances and workshops and has held residencies at Harvard and the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society. In addition to their work with composers at universities, the ensemble also enjoyed the "downtown" scene and completed a project with the California/New York composers' group, Common Sense.

The New Millennium Ensemble has performed to critical acclaim throughout the US and appeared at Merkin Hall, Miller Theatre, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall as well as on WNYC's Around New York. The ensemble recorded works of Donald Martino including From the Other Side for Koch International Classics as well as a second recording featuring the works of Morton Feldman also available on Koch International.

The New York Times wrote, "The expert young players of the New Millennium Ensemble have an admirable catholicity of taste and the virtuosity to support it." "Elliott Carter and John Adams were both played with warmth, shapeliness and an endearing flair.."
