Cellist Marius May studied in the junior department of the Royal College of Music and made his Wigmore Hall debut in 1975. The son of violinist Maria Lidka, he was signed to Decca Records early in his career. Fellow cellist Steven Isserlis remembered him as a serious interpreter with a distinctive artistic personality. May later moved to Israel and died in Jerusalem in 2020.
