Marietta Simpson has performed in opera and concert with major American and European orchestras. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1988 in Brahms's Alto Rhapsody with Robert Shaw and the Atlanta Symphony. Her operatic appearances include La Scala, Glyndebourne, Covent Garden, Houston Grand Opera, and Washington National Opera. She joined the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music faculty in 2005 and holds degrees from Temple University and SUNY Binghamton.
