Robert Moevs (1920–2007) was an American composer and teacher whose works include orchestral, chamber, vocal and instrumental music. Born in La Crosse, Wisconsin, he served in the United States Air Corps during the Second World War. He taught at Harvard before joining the faculty of Rutgers University, where he remained until 1991. Moevs was a Guggenheim Fellow and served as composer-in-residence at the American Academy in Rome. His music was performed by the Boston Symphony, the Cleveland orchestra and Leonard Bernstein with the Symphony of the Air. At Rutgers he also conducted the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble, contributing to its program of workshops, rehearsals and performances devoted to contemporary music.
