Harvey Sollberger is an American composer, flutist and conductor whose activities have helped shape the performance of contemporary chamber music. In 1962 he co-founded the Group for Contemporary Music, an ensemble devoted to the intensive preparation and presentation of new work. He later directed ensembles at the Manhattan School of Music, Indiana University and the University of California, San Diego, and served as music director of the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus. His honors include two Guggenheim Fellowships and an award from the National Institute of Arts and Letters. His music has received commissions from the Fromm, Naumburg and Koussevitzky foundations, and he has held residencies in Rome and San Francisco.
