Full Composer Biography

Alvin Brehm was a composer, double bassist, teacher and arts administrator with an extensive career in chamber music. He performed with the Guarneri, Budapest, Lenox and Manhattan quartets and the Jacques Thibaud Trio, and was an artist member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. His compositions received commissions from the Naumburg Foundation, American Brass Quintet and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. He also served as a guest composer at the American Academy in Rome. In education and public service, Brehm was dean at the State University of New York at Purchase and chaired music panels for the National Endowment for the Arts and New York State Council on the Arts.
