Avner Dorman is an Israeli-born composer and conductor whose music draws on a broad range of cultural and historical traditions. His catalog includes orchestral, chamber, solo, and operatic works, with a particular interest in rhythm and instrumental color. His percussion concertos Frozen in Time and Spices, Perfumes, Toxins! have received hundreds of performances. Dorman’s music has been commissioned by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and Israel Philharmonic, among others. In 2018, his violin concerto Nigunim received the Azrieli Prize for Jewish Music. He studied with Josef Bardanashvili and John Corigliano, earned a doctorate at Juilliard, and is Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Gettysburg College’s Sunderman Conservatory.
